I am getting a Jadelle implant on friday and wanted to know of anyone else who has got one and how it went. Do you notice it in your arm?

Thought I would share my contraception experiences hoping it will help anyone trying to decide whether to go with an implant.
Prior to emigrating to NZ in 2011 I had an Implanon implant put in for free on the NHS (UK). This lasted for three years without any major side effects (slight weight gain but this could have just been me!) I had not had periods prior as I had been having depo injections. This continued with the implanon and I was happy with the outcome. No other side effects to speak of.
When my implant came up for renewal I was advised that the implanon would cost at least $350 for replacement and was offered Jadelle as a cheaper 'funded' alternative. Great thought I!
As I had already had the implanon, I was well prepared for the procedure of removal and replacement - uncomfortable, bloody, but in my opinion worth it for 5 years of contraception.
I have now had the jadelle in place for over a year. Its coming out.... I have gained weight with me exercising regularly, I have started bleeding again, sometimes irregularly (which I haven't done for nearly 10 years on the depo and implanon). My poor husband has suddenly had to start dealing with mood swings, tears and (albeit) minor depressions.
Now I have read that there is the potential for the jadelle to migrate which was never an issue with the implanon, so I've decided to cut my losses.
As we are not planning on having any more kids we've come to the conclusion that more hormones in my body heading into my forties wouldn't help so, (if I can get him to the docs) snip, snip!!
Hope my experiences with the various forms of contraception help people make informed judgments, but do remember that everyone reacts differently and what is great for one may not suit another.

Jadelle, well I heard all the hype about it, being great for not getting pregnant and not having to take a pill. So I thought yeah,. why not! Give it a go. Ive been on it for 5-6 months now, and I'm really getting sick of my low ,sad, glumy moods I have:( not finding it much fun at all, unmotivated to do much as other users here have said. I don't have the bleeding issue, so maybe it affects my hormonal balance in a different way, unsure. But I'm more likely going to get them out I think. I will see smoothly removal goes eeek!.. Hopefully find a pill that works instead, and have bleeding.
I think and hope I'l be heaps happier!!...
Thanks for listening! And hope this helps someone out there..

Had it, LOVED IT, didn't even get my monthly while on it. :) was on it for about 2 1/2 years, yeah I could see it under my skin and feel it when touched, but after a week completely forgot about it and was easy to insert and removed fine. Would totally get it again after bubs #2.

I don't have one, but there was an article in the herald over the weekend that discussed the side effects that some women have had. I attach a link so that you can read it.

I have had my jadelle for 16 months, only last month I had 2 light periods that lasted about a week and nothing this month so far. I have not gained weight since having it put in, for some reason I've lost a little weight and have kept it off unlike the depo. I was on the depo for 5 years and had no periods at all but my weight was up and down, I'd lose 3 or 4kg then 12 wks later I'd get weighed at the clinic and find I've put it back on, 12 ks later I've lost it again. I had considered an IUD but my sister's one fell out and she got pregnant, she had heavy periods and said it must of fallen in the loo and she flushed it, that scared me knowing it could fall out or shift. Side effects vary from person to person using contraceptives. I am still happy with my jadelle

Worst Contraception ever. I would never recommend this to anyone. I had nearly every side effect you could think of including weird kicks as if I was pregnant. Its so awful!!

I had Jadelle put in around 7 months ago and i went from being 67kg to 91.6kg which is disgusting. I feel sick almost everyday after eating. Jadelle has also played with my moods and made me really upset often and leaving me having no motivation to go out and do anything. I hate this form of contraception and can not wait to be removed next week.
