Our friends who live in Hastings NZ bought us a MB pram (with a capsule as well) and almost fell over when they went to post it...NZ Post quoted them $350!!!!! There's just no way we or they could afford $350 just for getting the pram over here.
We've tried excess baggage companies, couriers, shipping companies....they're all around that price if not more.
Has anyone ever gotten something around the size of a pram over to Australia at a reasonable rate? If so if you can share with us the company that you dealt with that would be soooooo much appreciated.
Our baby isn't due till Feb 09 but we can wait as long as it takes to get the pram over here so long as its not an excessive fee like NZ Post are charging!

Try Air NZ cargo. They have pretty competitive prices.

If you can get cheap flights to NZ it would be almost cheaper for one of you to make the trip over to pick it up. My aunty just got flights to adelaide from Auckland for $100 each way.

Try a furniture removal company that does trans tasman as they'll just stick it into a container with somebody else's stuff - but it may end up costing similar. Also NZ Post get it wrong all the time, their guidelines are really hard t follow. So maybe call up and ask again.

My DHL price was for airfreight and it was 70 pound which worked out around $200 NZ. I didn't have to pay any customs or taxes because it was for personal use and under $1000 in value. Left the UK on a Tuesday and I had it on the Thursday afternoon, couldn't ask for better service. I've used DHL quite a few times and find them great.

When we moved over we used Crown, they have a minimum amount in cubic metres (cant think how much it was sorry) so anything that big or smaller is charged the same.
What a b..dy hassle ay. My mum bought a car seat over for us, we had to wait but it was the only way we could do it.

thanks for that! i'll try mainfreight and owens tomorrow as well! some of the couriers said it'll often cost more with sea freight because of the port fees etc and some charge a minimum weight/volumetric weight of 100kg or something? but i'll give those 2 companies a call to check anyway!
the pram is still in its original box so hopefully that will help.

Hi there - Chidlets partner here (a frequent lurker lol). Instead of courier companies try a freight company like Mainfreight or Owens etc. We use freighters at work over couriers for the price. you may have to get it well packed first, but could be pleasantly surprised.

Ratsmum thats a fantastic price for what you had shipped over!
I'm going to give them a call first thing tomorrow. HOpefully there'll be no difference because its a pram?
Is that $200EUROs? or $200AUD? Was that Air/Sea freight? Was there taxes/duties on top of that or was$200 the total?? Thats a fantastic price!
We definitely have it here but i think i got my MB on special in NZ for $650 (the elite version) which works out to be $500AUD......we thought we'd saved $350 odd dollars until we realised how expensive it'd be to get it over here!
That gives me some sense of relief knowing you got your stuff over from the UK to NZ for that price....lots of fingers and toes crossed that they can do a price like that for me!
