lactulose works the same as brown sugar mix and prine juice, just a lot stronger if anyone wanted to know. just acts by drawing the fluid into the bowel, which is why you have to careful with it in regards to dehydration. thats what the cardiologist told us.
coloxyl is good! i need some to loulou, just managed to stretch the last dose until yesterday

eww.. we found lactulose to be to strong for DS... within about 30minutes of having it he had power pooed! cant wait for the coloxyl drops to come back!!! they where magic!!

cant say brown sugar and water helped. i just know that drinking plenty of water helps.. (hes now 10mths). also like someone said 50ml water to 5ml fresh orange juice is good too... :) bit of a treat tho!!

Apparently the babies coloxyl drops are due back in stock on the 7th of September. Health professionals who are against brown sugar mixture say that because it can upset babies blood sugar levels, especially if they are particularly yong. We use a combination on glycerine suppositories and coloxyl drop, but I wouldnt try anything without asking you doc, its not always so straight forward

I find it hard to get dd to drink anything other than milk (sometimes even thats a struggle!) so I've started adding a tablespoon of prune juice to her fruit and cereal each morning. It seems to be making her #2s a lot softer. I found that the brown sugar and water worked IF I could get dd to drink it (which wasn't often).

Are they on solids yet? I find the jars of pear and kiwifruit good for #2s - also makes them softer.

i'm thinking of giving this to my baby today. I have tried giving her just cooled boiled water, but she hates it, spits it out and crys, but her last couple of poos have been hard little pellets.

I started with the brown sugar but found it did nothing, and now just use 1/2 teaspoon of prune juice. I give DS 1/2 tsp of juice every day, just to keep things regular. Plunket and GP don't seem to be worried about it as it won't do any harm, just makes him go regular and softer.

A little bit of freshly squeezed orange juice and water also does the trick if you are worried about giving bubs brown sugar

I think 1/2 teaspoon sounds good, you dont wanna give them too much, my plunket nurse was against the sugar. I brought brown sugar for it, but never ended up giving it. Just normal boiled water.

I used 5ml of lactulose (as recommended by GP). Wait 12 hours and if no result another 5ml..... It was the only thing that worked with my son...
