What’s on your mind?
Dh wants to move to Tauranga (From Papakura, Auckland) to have a better life for us and our children. It's a huge move for me as I don't like change. So I need to know what you think of Tauranga. What are the pro and cons? What are the nice areas to life - he wants to live in Papamoa. And how hard is it ti get jobs? He's an Electrician and I'm Admin/management.
I'd love as much info as you want to write.
Thanks in advance!

hi yay ima born and breed mountie who lost her mind and moved to aux and noe have become sane again and am moving to home sweet home, your partner right to say it a great place to raise kids, thats what the mount is all about families, fun, and friendships, the best time to move there is winter as you get some pretty amazing homes for good prices renting, the standed of living in all is hugely better than aux and the people not so "clicky" down there as to up here, you would love it there, jobs are easy enough to find again easier in winter now the summer crazys are all gone and no horrible congeted motorways to battle if commuting to tga frm paps or mt. there are alot of things avail for kids there and cheap and easily acessible most things are in walking distance, its a nice mix of people there not many asians or indians high op of euro and maori. its a great place, maybe go there for a lil break while it quiet to get a feel for it as it quite dif at summer, my partner did after much convincing and now he the one pushing to go back down to live so thats gotta be saying something for a true jaffa to wannna leave lol.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post your opinions, it is much appreciated. I think this move may be something we may do in the future but not he near future due to the recession and lack of jobs.

I have just made the move from Auckland to Tauranga (2months ago) and im only really getting to know it now as iv spent a lot of time commuting to auckland for various commitments. But i do love i always have loved holidaying down and and me and DH said if we ever had the opportunity to move down here we would. DH got made redundant in akl and offered a job down here so it was a no brainer. We are in Ohauiti at the moment, its a great suburb with an amazing veiw but it very hilly and i find i dont get out to walk very much so we are looking to move to the beach. We are looking at the Mt at the moment or bayfair, anywhere thats in walking distance to the beach. I decided that papamoa was just too far away and all the houses i saw kinda looked like every other house in the neighbouhood and that was just a bit too much suburbia for me. Although after living in auckland everything will seem close lol, i have no quarms about driving from one side of town to the other because its about the same distance as driving from the city to henderson, although i do miss the motorways but then there is basically no traffic in tauranga, even though lots of people down here say there is its nothing compare to sitting in peak hour traffic in akl. Its cruisey down here and definately a great place to bring up young kids. I have heard from several people that it is hard to find work though, im not working as iv just made the decsion to be a stay at home mum but i did look for a little while (all be it not too seriously) and the biggest problem was there werent a huge amount of new jobs listed on a regular basis. I think you really get to notice that it is a lot smaller. Just like im looking for a new house at the moment and this week only 2 new houses have been listed on trademe whereas in akl you would have had about 20. I have no friends down here but have managed to join a coffee group and hoping to get into a few more baby things like playcentre maybe but there seems like heaps to do with the kids so thats great. Anyway thats my novel lol but if you cant make it work i defintely suggest coming.

Hi! I live in Papamoa and I love it. Papamoa is growing and there are different area's with different priced houses and rents. It only takes me about 15mins now to get to work in Tauranga. We have a great Plunket playgroup and library, toy library, parks and of course the beach. Not sure about the job situation, but the lifestyle is brilliant. I think it's a great place to raise kids also. Good luck!

hi i have lived in Tauranga for 10yrs now having moved with family from Rotorua and we love it. My hubby has lived in Papamoa all his life pretty much and we both flatted over there for 8yrs before buying a house in Tauranga. If you love the beach and cruisy lifestyle then you will love it here, Paps is great as well its the more expensive area if you're looking to buy thats why we moved into Tga. I'm sure your hubby will find a job things are slowly picking up my hubby is a builder and he has noticed things are on the move again, i was in admin before bubs and found work ok but i think it may still be hard at the mo, but you can always start applying for work before moving down to get a feel of wots out there. The sun always shines here and its not far to travel to auckland if you still have family up there its only bout 2.5hrs. I would recommend it but i'm a bit biased :-)
