Has anyone had WINZ pay for dental treatment. Do you just take the invoice or receipt in to them or do you have to see WINZ first

They give $300 for dental per 12months for emergency treatment only. You need to get a WINZ quote from the dentist before getting any work done and take this into WINZ. I was quoted $2000 worth of emergency dental work needing done, WINZ gave me $300 and a $300 advance which I paid back. And that was it, and apparently I was lucky to get that. Best of luck, they don't make it easy but if you walk in armed with the knowledge of what you're entitled to, you can't lose =)

Usually its a max of $300 for a dental grant - it has to be considered emergency treatment - so not just a check up etc. If it's for something major (like wisdom teeth removal or root canal etc)you can ask to be referred to the public health dental departments in local hospitals to be put on the waiting list. It's best to at least contact your case manager first and make sure your dentist is aware of you approaching them for a grant too.

You have to go to the dentist first get a quote for the work and then take it to WINZ. My sister went in with a quote for $4000 to get her wisdom teeth fixed they told her they only over $400 towards dental bills and that she would have to get a loan for the rest. She was a solo mum and working at the time so only getting partial help from WINZ not sure if this is why they wouldnt help more or not. Their is definately no harm in trying though.
