BUT then it got to the point at 4 months that he was waking a lot in the night for it, so that is when we decided to stop giving it to him. The first night was rough but day 2 onwards was plain sailing.... he can now self-settle in the middle of the night and sleeps 12 hours straight. My son is now 10 months, started crawling at the 8 1/2 mark. But had the same problem with him and tummy time...He hated being on his tummy so would always sit instead. He did however learn to crawl from the sitting position, I just had to put his toys just out of reach so he had to think about what to do do get them and in the end he figured it out, he is still doing the commando crawl and sometimes getting up on his knees to crawl properly (but is now much more interested in pulling himself up and trying to walk) I think if you just go with the flow your child will learn what to do. He crawled before he even rolled, so every baby is different. Now after all the paddy's about being on his tummy, he now LOVES to sleep on his tummy.
