wisdom tooth extraction while pregnant

What would you like to talk about?

JUst wondering if anyone knows if you can have a wisdom tooth pulled in late pregnancy, im 36 weeks and had no probs with it so far so thought i'd wait till bubs was born to get it looked at... but yesterday it started aching, today its throbbing so bad i cant really open my mouth as the pain is radiating right along my jaw... panadol is doing nothing!! Im going to ring MW 2moro and dentist but just wanted to know if anyone has had anaestetic whilst pregnant?

I had teeth extracted while pregnant. For the after pain I used cepacol which is a topical anaesthetic mouthwash. It is about 15$ and available from most chemists. Also you can get some powdered myrrh from a heathstore and mix it with water for a great mouthwash. Slippery elm powder can be used the same.

For the pain try cloves or clove oil (should be able to get the oil at the pharmacy or health shop) It is fantastic for numbing in the mouth area :) I have had all my wisdom teeth out (best thing I ever did) so I can relate to the pain.
    Good luck

I had one out when 32 weeks pregnant and it was totally fine. It was not even as sore afterwards as I thought it would be.

I had the back molar (bottom) pulled during my last pregnancy, lots of local anaesthetic, no problems. Wisdom teeth are normally more shallow rooted, it does depend on what angle it has grown on though, bottom ones are trickier then top ones. But yes, it can be done, and although its really uncomfy for a few days I wouldnt say painful, and its a relief to have the pain over with!

Hey Candy! i had two fillings done last week and had the numbing injection, they were so nice to me even stopping part way to let me sit up so i didnt faint lol! even though i was telling them i was fine being on my back - they were very good to me!
i was so sure i needed a route canal done but turned out it was just decay (nice i know!) and the two molars got all over sensitive! man what a relief it was to get them fixed and not have route canals done lol
She was saying that your teeth can be very sensitive during pregnancy.
I really feel sorry for you and know exactly how you feel, my face hurt that much i would have done anything to get it to stop! Good luck hun and i hope its not as bad as it feels and may cost you less lol

I had to have some unavoidable detal work done at about 26 weeks last pregnancy. If they had been able to avoid it they would have, as it's not ideal...they gave me the bare minimum to get area numb, however I respond not so well to the anasetic (have always had that prob) so they ended up at the highest dose they'd consider giving a preggy woman. Also consider that they may have to take xrays with wisdom teeth. Talk to your dentist, but If avoidable, I'd personally do it after bubs is born. Sorry to hear you're in so much pain Candy...I so remember what that was like. If it's any consolation, I had my wisdom teeth removed a few years ago, and it was definately not as bad as I thought it'd be :) But I think everyone has different fears and experience with the old teeth :) Good luck!!!!

Ouch! You poor thing. I'm not sure about what you can and can't have but I either hope you are able to get it taken out or that it settles back down until after baby is born.
