These are some of the items you may find useful during while you’re staying in hospital:
- Snacks and drinks
- Togs for the birthing pool
- Clothing to birth in
- Camera, video camera and spare film and batteries/chargers
- Mobile phone and charger
- Massage oil
- Relaxing music
- Lip balm
- A copy of your Birth Plan
- Face cloths
- Your own pillow
- Hair ties for long hair
- A list of people to call
- Toiletries
- Maternity pads. We recommend Libra Maternity pads which are super absorbent, but ultra thin and extra long with wings. These provide extra protection and comfort.
- Comfy and practical knickers

- Soft and delicate toilet paper, or you may prefer Sorbent toilet wipes (these come in a handy pack)
- Prepare a reminder note that you'll need to have a carseat ready to bring your new baby home from the hospital

Following are some of the things to think about that will help you design your own Birth Plan:
- Where you want to give birth
- Who you want there
- What labour aids you want to use
- Whether you want pain relief
- What position you want to be in
- Who will deliver the baby
- Who will cut the cord
- How you want the placenta delivered
- If you want skin-to-skin contact
- Whether you want to breastfeed
- Whether you want your baby to have the Guthrie Test
- If you need a c-section, do you have any particular requests
- Any issues from previous births you want to resolve or improve on.
- Whether you want to keep the placenta
