"you don't need to do anything. It's normal for toddlers to be fussy and have a smaller appetite than when they were babies.
Just offer a range of good food and regular intervals and leave the rest to him. Don't pander to fussiness, and don't make a big deal about what he eats or how much. Your job is to provide the food, his is to decide if he's hungry and eat it if he is.
If you think he's overly tired at dinner time give him his main meal earlier in the day. You can keep it back from the night before and reheat. Then when the rest of the family has dinner give him a snack so he can join in the social scene."
