When you are starting out as a parent, the thought of changing a nappy can be quite daunting, so let us make the nappy changing process an easy one for you! After all, this is the time when you are face-to-face with your little one – a great time to bond and a quality moment to treasure.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

Wash your hands

This is one of the most important things to do before you change your baby’s nappy. Your hands can get grubby throughout the day but your baby has sensitive skin and isn’t immune to all of the household nasties.

Fully open

Fully open out the nappy.  Gently tug at either end to create a 'boat' OR cradling effect.  Run your fingers along the elastic leg guards to ensure they are sitting upright and that they are not tucked in.  This is important – otherwise, the contents of the nappy may escape!

Gently clean

Gently clean baby’s bottom with a Treasures Baby Wipe. Pay attention to skin folds. For a girl, wipe front to back. Let your baby’s bum air as long as possible to avoid nappy rash. If there are any irritated areas, apply some barrier cream, gently rubbing onto the skin.

Nappy under baby

Place under baby and attach tabs

Place nappy under baby with grip tabs at the back. Bring the front of the nappy up between baby’s legs and spread firmly across the tummy. With one hand on both the baby and the nappy, open grip tab and attach to the front of the nappy. Repeat on the other side.

Adjust

Adjust for comfortable fit

Adjust the refastenable grip tabs to ensure a snug, comfortable fit. If baby’s umbilical cord is still present, you can fold the front of the nappy to avoid this area rubbing. Run finger gently around the leg gathers to ensure the material is not folded to the inside

Dispose

To dispose

If the nappy is soiled, empty contents into the toilet. Do not flush the nappy down the toilet.  Keep the waterproof backing on the outside and roll nappy into a tight ball, then use the tabs to seal and secure the nappy in place. Dispose in the rubbish bin. Always wash your hands after changing your baby’s nappy.
