During the winter school holidays it can be difficult to know how to entertain the kids, especially when the weather is unreliable and it's not as easy to escape to a beach or head out on a walk. Being stuck in the house might drive the kids - and you - a little crazy. Here are our top 10 activities to do around New Zealand to beat those bad weather blues and make your school holiday stress free.
The Owl & the Pussycat

Animates FREE School Holiday Activities
Take your little ones to Tower Junction, Linwood or Papanui Animates stores for a free activity session. Learn everything there is to know about fantastic fish and rocking reptiles. Sessions run for 45 minutes from 11am and 2pm. All participants receive a certificate of completion and no bookings are required.
Said to be the place to hang out these holidays! There's heaps to do regardless of the weather as they are under cover. See the amazing array of animals, plus take part in fun arts and crafts, meet their roaming dinosaur and witness some special entertainment. Their butterfly house also has over 800 species of butterflies and you can visit the new Kiwi Forest to catch a glimpse of Ipo and Tapu, their Brown Kiwi.

Is there a little artist in the household? Paint ceramics with Bridget and the team from Gone Potty! They have all sorts of fun figurines and animals to be painted and you can take them home the same day. But be quick, spaces are limited.
Rockets and Robots Fun Day at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand
See robots and rockets in the Air Force Museum and discover how they are used in our world. Suitable for 3-13 year olds and visit any time between 10am and 4pm.
Animal Planet at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton's
This July, Sea Life Kelly Tarlton's have partnered with Discovery Channel's Animal Planet to invite guests to an o-fish-ial quest to discover the underwater world. The interactive experience will take families on an adventure through the aquarium. Children will learn about creatures habitats, different environments and the importance of conservation. Each child will receive an activity card and then the race is on to hunt for stars throughout the attraction. Discover all stars and be in the draw to win a prize pack! What are you waiting for?
Junior Detective Trail and Senior Detective Mystery
The New Zealand Police Museum have two cases for the kids to solve. Children aged 4-7 can follow trails of evidence and complete activities to see if they have what it takes to earn their detective stamp.
Rocket Ropes School Holiday
Swing through the trees with Rocket Ropes. A fun, low climbing course designed for children aged 2-6 years. There's also a Croc Tower for bigger kids!
