Rock Your Bump Q&A
Joining us on the runway for NZ Fashion Week is Rock Your Bump, the designer with a huge line of super stylish pregnancy and breastfeeding clothing. We caught up with Sarah and Lesley, the proud owners of this Kiwi brand...
How did your label Rock Your Bump come about?
Funnily enough, I was a breastfeeding Mum, looking online for new clothes when I saw the business for sale. It looked like a great project (cue a sleep deprived Mum with a 3 week old baby making plans for a new business). Mum and I have gone from strength to strength with the business over the past six years. It has been an amazing journey.
What will you be showing in the Little Treasures Mum and Kids’ Runway show?
Dresses have come through strong for Summer 2018/19. Whether you're looking for something for the school run, your baby shower or a wedding, we have you sorted in the dress department this year. You will also see a couple of our more casual looks from firm New Zealand mum favourite, Addison Clothing, pop up later in the show with the mums and Bubs.
Maternity activewear – did that category exist five years ago?
I think leggings have always been a favourite "mum uniform" piece, especially when your body is going through so many changes. Anything that stretches with you is your friend. Maternity activewear has certainly come a long way over the past five years though adding a fun, colourful element to that stretchy goodness!
Is there one key piece you would encourage pregnant women or mums to invest in?
Ohhh there are so many different "key" pieces depending on your lifestyle. You cant go past a staple pair of comfortable jeans or denim shorts, which can be worn long after the baby is born. Another favourite key piece would be casual breastfeeding dresses. These can be worn right through your pregnancy and on to your breastfeeding journey so you'll get plenty of wear out of it... and lets be honest, most pregnant mamas love not having the pressure of a waistband on their growing bump.
What’s your best piece of advice for dressing for maternity?
Shop early! Don't wait until you are eight months pregnant to decide nothing fits anymore, get all the wear you can out of your purchases and save your non-maternity favourites for after the baby is born. Don't stretch them all out of shape trying to accommodate your gorgeous bump.
